Why I’m taking uncomfortable action
Last week, I participated in a seminar called Own Your Future. One of the things I heard was this:
“If something feels scary to you - and you think you’d be a better person if you pushed yourself to do it - then do it.”
So, on Friday, I made myself a challenge that’s both daunting and exciting.
30 UNCOMFORTABLE ACTIONS of authentic, imperfect visibility
This challenge takes aim at an obstacle that gets in the way of living boldly: The fear of being judged
If you’re like me, this fear is a big one. It’s not so much that it happens - of course we are judged - but it feels bad to imagine it: eye rolls, snarky comments, being ignored or laughed at.
These “judgers” are usually not strangers or the public at-large. They are colleagues and friends. They may be long gone from our lives, but they have VIP seats for all our performances.
I made this challenge with them in mind. We’re proving to ourselves that we can be authentically and imperfectly VISIBLE and be ok. They can roll their eyes and say what they want - we are fine!
This is like a fear desensitization. And it sets us up for bigger challenges.
Just like athletes who have to practice before a big event, we need to develop our sense of freedom and safety - our arena - where we can live and help others in an even greater way.
Is there anything that scares you - that you think would make you happier, stronger or better if you pushed yourself to do it?
Let’s do it!
